PROFILE

The founding charter of the MAARIF Institute for Culture and Humanity (2003) affirms the institution’s core commitment as a cultural movement rooted in the values of keislaman (Islam), keindonesiaan (Indonesian identity), and kemanusiaan (universal humanity). These three pillars are central to the intellectual and activist journey of Prof. Dr. Ahmad Syafii Maarif, former Chairman of Muhammadiyah (1998–2005) and past President of the World Conference on Religion for Peace (WCRP).

To be a leading institution for intellectual renewal and advocacy that advances Islamic praxis, establishing social justice and humanity as the bedrock of Indonesian identity, in line with the social and intellectual ideals of Ahmad Syafii Maarif.

To advance the actualization of democratic values, human rights, and diversity to restore public civility, mutual respect, and constructive cooperation for the sake of Indonesian identity and humanity.

Utilizing MAARIF House as a strategic hub that brings together policymakers, academics, and civil society actors to debate critical policy briefs, address contemporary democratic challenges, and advocate for public civility.
MAARIF Academy
Didik Pemimpin, Bangun Peradaban

MAARIF Academy comprises three flagship programmes: Jambore Pelajar Teladan Bangsa (JPTB), a leadership training initiative for high school students; the Ahmad Syafii Maarif National Tadarus, an academic forum dedicated to exploring the intellectual legacy of Ahmad Syafii Maarif and formulating a cultural manifesto in response to contemporary national challenges; and the MAARIF International Academy, a collaborative platform for scholars, educators, activists, and young leaders from national and international spheres to strengthen social cohesion and harmony in diversity. Together, these programmes foster inclusive citizenship, critical thinking, and transformative leadership among the youth.
